When it’s 95 degrees by noon and the humidity makes it feel like you’re breathing through a wet towel, you need relief. An above ground pool gives your family somewhere to go without driving 30 minutes or dealing with crowded public pools.
Your kids stop complaining about being bored. You stop worrying about where they are. Everyone’s in the backyard, cooling off, actually spending time together instead of staring at screens in separate rooms.
Above ground pools cost a fraction of what you’d spend on an in-ground setup. You’re looking at around $4,000 instead of $65,000. That’s not a small difference when you’re trying to give your family something nice without taking out a second mortgage. Installation happens in days, not months. You don’t need major excavation or permits that drag on forever.
We work with families across Alapaha, GA and the surrounding Berrien County area. We’ve installed pools in backyards where space is tight, budgets are real, and summer heat is relentless.
We’re based in Douglas, which means we understand the clay soil, the summer storms, and what it takes to keep a pool running smoothly when temperatures stay above 90 for weeks at a time. You’re not dealing with a national chain that doesn’t know the area. You’re working with people who live here and have installed pools for your neighbors.
First, we come out to look at your yard. We measure the space, check the ground, and talk through what size and style makes sense for your property and how you plan to use it. No pressure, just straight answers about what’s realistic.
Once you’re ready to move forward, we handle site prep. That means leveling the ground, laying the base, and making sure drainage won’t be an issue down the road. This part matters more than people think. A pool that’s not level will have problems from day one.
Then we assemble and install the pool itself. Depending on the model, this takes anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days. We set up the filtration system, check for leaks, and walk you through the basics of maintenance so you’re not guessing how to keep the water clear. After that, you’re ready to fill it up and start using it.
Ready to get started?
You get a pool that’s built to handle South Georgia weather. Summers here aren’t just hot—they’re long. We’re talking May through September of consistent heat, often pushing past 95 degrees with humidity that makes it feel even worse. Your pool needs to hold up through all of that.
We install pools that fit smaller yards and odd-shaped spaces. Not everyone in Alapaha has a massive flat backyard. We work with what you’ve got and design the setup so it makes sense for your property. That includes making sure the filtration system is accessible and the pool is positioned where it won’t create drainage issues or crowd your outdoor space.
Safety is part of the setup, not an afterthought. We talk through fencing, barriers, and supervision, especially if you have young kids. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, and most of those incidents happen in home pools. We make sure you understand what needs to be in place before the pool gets filled.
Most above ground pool installations in Alapaha run between $3,000 and $6,000, depending on the size, materials, and any site prep that’s needed. If your yard is already fairly level and doesn’t need major grading, you’ll be on the lower end. If we need to clear brush, level a slope, or add extra base material, that adds to the cost.
The pool itself is usually the biggest expense. A basic 24-foot round steel pool costs less than a larger oval model with upgraded materials. Add-ons like decking, upgraded filtration, or lighting will increase the total, but those are optional. We give you a breakdown upfront so there’s no confusion about what you’re paying for.
Compared to an in-ground pool, which averages around $65,000 in Georgia, an above ground setup is a fraction of the cost. You get the same relief from the heat and a place for your family to swim without the massive financial commitment or months of construction tearing up your yard.
Installation typically takes one to three days, depending on the size of the pool and the condition of your yard. If the ground is already level and clear, we can have a standard round pool up and running in a single day. Larger pools or sites that need grading and prep work take a bit longer.
Site preparation is the part that varies the most. We need to level the area, remove any rocks or roots, and lay a solid base—usually sand or a foam pad. Skipping this step or rushing through it leads to problems later, like uneven water levels, stress on the pool walls, or premature wear. We don’t cut corners here because it’s not worth the headaches you’ll deal with down the road.
Once the site is ready, the actual pool assembly moves quickly. We set up the frame, install the liner, connect the filtration system, and check everything for leaks. After that, you fill it with water and let the filter run for a day before jumping in. The whole process is faster and far less disruptive than digging a hole in your yard for an in-ground pool.
It depends on the size of the pool and local regulations in Berrien County. Most above ground pools under a certain size don’t require a building permit, but you may still need to meet setback requirements—meaning the pool has to be a certain distance from your property line, septic system, or utility easements.
We recommend checking with the Berrien County building department before installation. Requirements can vary, and it’s better to confirm upfront than deal with issues later. In some cases, if you’re adding a deck or permanent structure around the pool, that might trigger permit requirements even if the pool itself doesn’t.
Fencing is another consideration. While above ground pools with walls over a certain height may not legally require a fence in some areas, it’s still a smart safety measure, especially if you have young children or neighbors with kids. We can walk you through what makes sense for your property and help you understand what’s required versus what’s just a good idea.
You’ll need to check the water chemistry weekly, clean the filter regularly, and skim debris off the surface. Georgia summers are long and hot, which means your pool water evaporates faster and algae can grow quickly if the chemical balance is off. Keeping chlorine levels steady and pH in the right range prevents most problems before they start.
Your filter does most of the heavy lifting, but it only works if you maintain it. That means backwashing or cleaning the filter cartridge every few weeks, depending on how much you use the pool and how much debris falls in. Pine needles, pollen, and leaves are constant issues in South Georgia, so staying on top of skimming and filtration saves you from dealing with cloudy or green water.
Winterizing isn’t as intense here as it is up north, but you still need to protect your pool during the cooler months. That usually means lowering the water level, adding winter chemicals, and covering the pool to keep out debris. If you skip this step, you’ll spend the first few weeks of spring trying to get the water clear again instead of swimming.
Not without leveling it first. An above ground pool needs to sit on a flat, stable surface or you’ll have serious problems. If one side is even a few inches higher than the other, the water pressure becomes uneven, which stresses the pool walls and can cause the structure to fail. It’s not worth the risk.
Leveling the ground is part of the site prep process. Depending on how uneven your yard is, that might mean removing soil from the high spots, adding fill to the low areas, or a combination of both. Once the area is level, we add a base layer—usually sand or a foam pad—to create a smooth, cushioned surface for the pool liner. This prevents rocks or roots from poking through and causing leaks.
If your yard has a significant slope, we’ll talk through your options. Sometimes it makes more sense to choose a different location on your property. Other times, we can do the grading work needed to create a level pad. Either way, we’ll give you an honest assessment of what’s involved and what it’ll cost before we start any work.
It depends on how many people will use it and what you want to do in the pool. A 24-foot round pool is the most popular size for families with kids. It’s big enough for everyone to swim and play without feeling cramped, but it doesn’t take over your entire yard. If you have more space and want room for adults to swim laps or float comfortably, a 27-foot round or an oval pool might be a better fit.
Smaller pools—like 18 or 21-foot rounds—work well if your yard is tight or you’re mainly looking for a place for young kids to cool off. They’re easier to maintain because there’s less water to treat and filter, and they cost less upfront. The tradeoff is that they feel crowded faster, especially if you have teenagers or multiple kids using the pool at once.
Depth matters too. Most above ground pools are 48 to 54 inches deep, which is enough for swimming and playing but not deep enough for diving. If you want a pool where older kids and adults can really swim, go with the deeper option. We’ll measure your yard, talk through how you plan to use the pool, and help you figure out what size makes sense without overselling you on something bigger than you need.
